Abahlali and AEC participated in the struggle to force the organisers to allow poor people's organisations in Nairobi into the conference. But once they got inside it was clear that the NGOs had elected themselves to make all the decisions that mattered long before the conference begun. And then there was the walk through Kiberia. Abahlali were shocked to discover that the Kenyan shack dwellers along the route had no idea what the march was for. Clearly they were supposed to be the passive suffering to provide the backdrop for someone else's politics....What's new?
