Abahlali to hold the Annual Thuli Ndlovu lecture on Heritage Day
Abahlali baseMjondolo will once again use Heritage Day to honour all our heroes who have paid the ultimate price in the fight against new forms of oppression. While the rest of the country celebrates heritage through diverse cultural activities, our movement will take time to honour all our fallen heroes. Struggle brought us to where we are today and it is only struggle, from the left and from below, that can take us forward. The unity and power forged in struggle is our heritage. Continue reading

Occupy, Resist, Develop
The year 2015, the tenth year of the existence of our movement, has almost come and gone. On the 3rd of October we gathered at the Curries Fountain Stadium to celebrate ten years of struggle. More than four thousand comrades participated in the celebration. We have survived years of serious repression – including arrests, assaults, torture, imprisonment, the destruction of our homes, slander and assassination. In these ten years we have won many victories in the struggle for land and dignity. Continue reading

Ndlovu family, mama ka Thuli, Thuli’s daughters Slindile and Freedom, Comrades, friends and colleagues. Today we gather here not to mourn but to celebrate Thuli Ndlovu’s life. Today we also gather here to remember and to celebrate the life of Nqobile Nzuza, the life of Nkululeko Gwala and the life of Thembinkosi Qumbela.
All four comrades were murdered in cold blood by senseless killers who have no heart for human life. Comrades both Thuli and Nqobile were murdered in the month of September. Thuli Ndlovu was murdered on the 29th of September 2014 and Nqobile was murdered on the 30th of September 2013. Comrades it was on the 26th and 27th of September 2009 that our movement and our leaders were attacked by ANC associated thugs after winning a case against the then Slums Act at the Constitutional Court in Johannesburg. The First Annual Thuli Ndlovu Memorial Lecture
The First Annual Thuli Ndlovu Memorial Lecture, in honour of our comrade assassinated in KwaNdengezi on the 29th of September last year, was scheduled to take place on the 24th of September 2015.
The lecture was disturbed by the taxi strike that was going on at that time. Only 178 comrades were able to reach the venue on foot. A decision was taken to hold a meeting and to reschedule the lecture for another time. Continue reading
