Another picture of S’bu outside the court minutes after his release

The flag does not say that we belong because others don’t. On the contrary if your are in the settlement you are from the settlement. It doesn’t matter where you or your ancestors come from. Baba Nango, Harare, Madras – it’s all the same.

The flag does not say that we are the country and that others must appeal to us for their place.

It says we are also part of this country. The political and business elite may have decided to expel us materially and legally and symbolically from the rights of citizenship but we will demand our place. We are not a foreign funded plot of foreign intelligence agencies. We are the people on whose land and labour the wealth of this country was built, we are the people who who liberated the country street by street in the 1980s. We are a plot by the excluded and the repressed organised by the agency of our own intelligence.
