Bahlali welcome S’bu Zikode back to umzabalazo
On Monday more than 5 000 comrades marched from Curries Fountain to the Durban City Hall to protest against the repression of our movement, including ongoing threats and assassinations. It was made very clear that the ANC is responsible for this repression. After months underground S’bu Zikode participated in the march and addressed the gathering outside the City Hall. He has made it clear that he would rather perish than bow to an abusive state.
Today Abahlali baseMjondolo Barcelona 2 in Lamontville, an area in which there has been serious repression, including murder, have organised a rally to welcome S’bu Zikode back to umzabalazo. Other branches in Durban have been invited to gather at Barcelona 2 for this event.
The comrades in Barcelona 2 have successfully resisted all attempts by the local ANC ward councillor Eunice Khanyile to violently and unlawfully evict them from their homes. Her violent and unlawful eviction took place few weeks after eThekwini Mayor Zandile Gumede and Nelly Nyanisa, council Chief whip, made threats public against our movement and and against S’bu Zikode in particular. Abahlali took the city to the Durban High Court where the court ordered the city to reinstate hundreds of displaced families.
We will not turn back. The struggle for land, freedom and dignity continues. We will confront all forms of oppression with the organised power of the oppressed.
The event started at 10:00 am and is continuing now.
