Abahlali condemns the attack on the family home of the PUDEMO president

The movement for democracy in Swaziland continues to be under attack from the dictatorship of the monarch, Mswati. Mswati continues to repress those who are fighting for freedom in the country.

In the early hours of this morning the home of the president of PUDEMO, Lungisa Mkhanya, was petrol bombed and burnt to the ground. This is a clear indication that the regime is attacking any democratic formation that wants to see the people of Swaziland liberated from the monarchy.

The beating, torturing, jailing and killing of those who are fighting for freedom in Swaziland continues while the king continues to enrich himself and his family. The burning of

Lungisa Mkhanya’s home by the regime is a clear indication that the Mswati dictatorship is feeling the pressure from the growing power and confidence of the movement for democracy in Swaziland.

It is our political duty to support that movement, including all struggles for democracy in the country, and to stand in solidarity with everyone facing repression at the hands of Mswati’s police, army and intelligence.

PUDEMO support us whenever we face repression and we will now support them. The attack on the PUDEMO is an attack on Abahlali baseMjondolo and is an attack on our freedom. We are PUDEMO. We cannot just watch while a movement for democracy is under attack from a dictator who is serving his own selfish interests.

We therefore are calling for the condemnation of this attack on the house of the president of PUDEMO by all progressive formations of the poor and the working class. At the same time we need to move towards concrete and collective forms of solidarity with all our comrades who are bravely struggling against the Mswati dictatorship.
