Occupation outside Jayraj Bacchu’s offices
When the small Lusaka Settlement (54 shacks) in Reservoir Hills was demolished 19 families who were 'not on the list' to be allocated houses in the atrocious rural ghetto of Parkgate (7km from Verulum and a R21 taxi ride from Durban) were left homeless. This is, following the Grootboom judgement, in direct violation of South African law. These families are currently occuping the garden outside of Cllr. Jayraj Bachu's offices in Clare Road, Clare Estate.
There are pictures of the occupation online at http://southafrica.indymedia.org/news/2005/11/9133.php
They have been told that the police will disperse them tomorrow and will confiscate all their belongings.
