Injuries Reported Through the Branches

Numerous people, including clergy, were beaten on Friday. This list below is only the list of serious injuries (requiring hospital treatment).

* Cecilia Smith, Kennedy Road, shot in back of the left arm at close range with rubber bullet
* Bonginkosi, Kennedy Road, shot in the back of the head with a rubber bullet at close range
* Ma Kikine, Joe Slovo, shot in upper back (5 times) and on the back of the left arm (once) with rubber bullet at close range
* Miss Gule, Joe Slovo, beaten on left thigh with a baton, severe bruising
* Nelly, eNkwalini, twisted/broken ankle while beaten on shoulder with baton
* Nokuthula, Edendale (Pietermaritzburg), kicked and beaten with batons, severe bruising and grazing

Two of these people, including Ma Kikine, are elderly women. Ma Kikine is obviously frail and was obviously in great pain while in custody but did not receive any medical attention.

Everyone has been visited in home and/or in hospital and those at home are being helped with fetching water.

They have all been charged with violating the gatherings act and with public violence. They appeared in court on Tuesday 2 October. The police requested more time to continue with their investigations and they will appear in court again on 13 November. (Please remember that the Kennedy 6 are still out on bail on a vastly more serious charge and that they are scheduled to go to trial in February next year.)
