We are having a center that cares for people living with HIV/Aids and the orphans and vulnerable children

What is an orphan?
An orphan is a child who lost his/her mother.
Age: 0-18 Years
Criteria: If the child is schooling and under the caregivers hand.
If the child is a child headed household EG. Looking after her mother’s young children.
What are people living with HIV/Aids?
Someone who is tested HIV positive and disclose his or her status to the centre volunteers.
How are we helping the orphans?
1.we are giving food parcels to them
2.we are visiting them at their houses to see if the relationship is still good with caregivers
3.we visiting them at school and see how they are coping
4.we are taking them to the clinic when they are sick
5.we make sure that we get caregivers for them if they are too young
6.we are helping them to do some foster grant applications

Future plans for AVC
1. open support group at school for infected and affected.
2. to reduce stigma at school.
3. to prepare lunch for them.
4. to help them by doing their homework
5. to wash their uniform and polish shoes
How are we helping the people living with HIV/Aids?
1. we are doing home visits.
2. refer them for c.d.4 count.
3. helping them to apply for disability grants.
4. educating the family members about precautions and HIV/Aids itself.
5. forming support groups
6. educating them about living with hope and a positive life.
7. giving them food parcels
8. giving them training on HIV/Aids.
9. telling them about condom use.
10. teaching them the importance about A.R.V’s.
11. grants follow-up.
12. if someone dies we call his/her family members if they living far from the city of Durban.
Future plans for p.t.w. HIV/Aids
1.to give them lunch
2.to open an A.R.V’s site
3.to reduce stigma in our community
4.to make a vegetable garden.
Challenges faces our work
1. communicaton breakdown with the ward councillor
2. we losing help from other organizations who wants to help us but the councillors office are always closed.
3. the volunteers are leaving the jobs because of green pastures.
4. no staff employed for the center only volunteers.
5. we need funds to buy food for the crèche children.
6. venue is too small we need a container.
7. lack of sanitation in the shacks
8. long distance to the tap.
9. long queue to the tap.
10. T.B stats are increasing
11. shack fires.
12. poor living conditions eg. Leaking shacks.
13. poverty – the women got no say on protected sex.
14. unemployment – orphans are selling their bodies.
15. domestic violence is very high.
16. crime is very high.
17. HIV stats is very high.
