Abahlali BaseMjondolo say they are not responsible for violent protests in Khayelitsha

Shack dwellers movement – Abahlali BaseMjondolo says it had nothing to do with the violent protests in Khayelitsha on Tuesday night – in which police cars and other vehicles were damaged. The organisation’s Mzonki Poni yesterday rubbished such claims saying the protest were not planned by the organisation. He says the organisation’s condemned the criminal acts. Meanwhile Poni says a meeting they had with the provincial Human Settlements Department two days ago didn’t go as they’d hoped it would. Poni says however that while they will continue to engage the department – they won’t stop their peaceful protests in Khayelitsha.
