Protest at the Cape Town civic centre – 23 November 2011

Today at 12:30 Abahlali baseMjondolo of Western Cape had a protest outside the Civic Centre offices of City of Cape Town, calling on Patricia De Lille to meet with our members without imposing any terms of engagement and demanding that such meeting should take place at Khayelitsha where our members are based and it should be open to everybody, and everybody should be allowed to voice out his/her views without any fear of favor or intimidation.

When Patricia De Lille did not want to come out and accept our memorandum we were not surprised as an organization because we know how aloof she become after being paid back by the Democratic Alliance for selling out Coloured and African votes to the DA which is pro-rich.

She sent one of her junior staff members to come and collect our memorandum and when we handed over our memorandum which was written in placards in a forms of slogans Stofile who represented the City refused to accepts the placards instead he pushed them away and left.

We condemn the City for undermining the memorandum of the poor by the poor. Our memorandum was hand written and everybody who participated in our protest contributed meaningfully in our memorandum and the city had responsibility to respect our memorandum and respond to it within limited time.
