Abahlali at Musgrave Centre Screening of “A Place in the City”, 3 Continents Film Festival

[fsg_gallery id=”215″]Abahlali was invited to speak at a screening of A Place in the City, hosted by the 3 Continents Film Festival. There was also a question and answer session with members of the public. These photos are of the impromtu meeting after the screening. In the days and weeks following the attacks at Kennedy Road, after the Abahlali office and Kennedy Hall had been taken over, after many members and leaders fled for their lives and went into hiding, meetings were often held in impromtu spaces such as the Musgrave Centre shopping mall. Meeting in secure, extremely public spaces, or secret unannounced spaces was a way to protect against further violence, and to assuage fear.
