Abahlali baseMjondolo Press Statement

Abahlali to Launch a New Branch in Gauteng Province

The movement of Abahlali baseMjondoli will launch another new branch in Gauteng tomorrow. The new branch is in Tembisa, in the community of Vusimuzi. The launch will begin at 10 am.

Despite serious repression the movement has grown immensely in the last few years, and continues to grow rapidly.

As always the launch will include a strong political education programme. The political education is based on our living politics of Ubuhlalism, which is the movement’s ideology that speaks to the fact that we are not poor but we that we are impoverished. It is a politic that speaks to the fact that we do not have water, and electricity and houses, and that land, wealth and power must be shared. It is a politic that starts from the fact that we still live like pigs in the mud in shacks of indignity in post-apartheid South Africa. It is a politic rooted in the capacity of the oppressed to build democratic organisation from below. It is a politic that understands that inkani will open the road towards popular democratic power and justice.

In the state that the country is in there is a great demand for our movement because the impoverished remain neglected, exploited and oppressed. We will also visit another branch in Johannesburg where a political education session will be held.

Land. Housing. Dignity.

Occupy. Resist. Develop.
