Abahlali baseMjondolo to hold Annual Thuli Ndlovu lecture

We will this morning hold our Annual Thuli Ndlovu lecture. The Thuli Ndlovu lecture is one of our revolutionary moment to honour and commemorate our fallen heroes.

Thuli Ndlovu was assassinated on 29 September 2014 at her home in KwaNdengezi while she was carrying her baby boy Freedom. Next to her was Sphe Madlala a teenager who was visiting Thuli’s daughter to help her with her school home work. Thuli was shot dead by a hitman. Sphe was also shot but survived with serious wounds.

The hitman who murdered Thuli was hired by two ANC councillors serving in eThekwini Municipality. These ANC councillors were Ward Councillor Mduduzi Christian Ngcobo, also known as Nqola, and his PR comrade Councillor Luvelile Lutsheku. As a result of sustained struggle they were prosecuted and sentenced to life imprisonment by the Durban High Court.

The ANC has become a dangerous organisation. It did not stop with this murder. More of our leaders have been murdered through the Metro police, Land Invasion Unit, the SAPS party structures.

Thuli Ndlovu is one of 18 activists in our movement that have been murdered since 2013. Today, Abahlali and the families of late comrades meet to honour and celebrate the lives of these heroes. Honouring them will mean that we recommit ourselves to make the ultimate sacrifice if necessary as we continue the work they had begun.

Today we will be asking difficult questions to our own comrades about how these heroes would confront today’s Calvin and Family Security? How would they confront state corruption that has robbed us and our children of a better future? How would they confront dangerous self-hate like xenophobia and violence against women?

The lecture will be held at Prince Edward Hindu Sural Memorial Hall from 10:00am

Land, power and wealth must be shared equally.
