Abahlali baseMjondolo press statement

The alleged killers of Comrade Nokuthula Mabaso are due to appear this morning in the Durban Magistrate’s Court

Samson Mhlanganyelwa Ngubane, a local ANC chief who is also a pastor in the Mayville area, his brother, and his son Khaya Ngubane have all been arrested and charged with murder.

Khaya Ngubane was charged with murder of Comrade Ayanda Ngila and he remains in custody. Ayanda Ngila was shot and killed in broad-day light while working in the community garden at the eKhenana Commune on 8 March 2022.

On 5 May 2022 Comrade Nokuthula Mabaso, a very strong and respected leader of our movement, was also murdered in the eKhenana Commune. Mabaso was one of the key witnesses in the murder case of Ayanda Ngila. Samson Ngubane, who controlled the Cato Manor police, was charged with Mabaso’s murder.

The two Ngubanes, Samson and Kaya, are expected to file their bail application this morning.

Abahlali and our Coalition comrades and partners will go out in our numbers to picket outside court and oppose bail. This family is a disgrace to our democracy and to human kind. We want them to rot in prison so that a clear message can be sent to all those who wage war against activists and women in this country. Such a “pastor” is a disgrace to society and should never be allowed in society.

Justice for Ayanda Ngila!

Justice for Nokuthula Mabaso!

Justice for the eKhenana Commune!
