Somali shop owners and their Gugulethu counterparts are expected to sign an agreement which will put an end to intimidation of Somalis.

Local shop keepers have accused Somalis of killing their businesses by selling their goods at lower prices.

Last month, threatening letters were distributed to Somalis in Gugulethu demanding they vacate the township.

An interim anti-xenophobic committee has since been formed by both parties to deal with problem.

Coordinator for the Western Cape’s Anti-Eviction Campaign Mncedisi Twala said the meeting will seal the commitment from both sides.

“Both parties have agreed. They want to make sure there’s 100m expanse between local business and the foreign business and the second point – there mustn’t be any new businesses that are opening up.”

Twala also said basic foods would be the same price at local and foreign business.
