Memorial Service for the late Bongo Dlamini, Motala Heights Creche, 23 October 2009

[fsg_gallery id=”210″]The memorial service for the late Bongo Dlamini was held in the Motala Heights creche. Bongo designed and built the crèche from floor to ceiling. The electricity in the crèche, as well as in the settlement, was connected by him. He also designed and painted many Abahlali banners, such as those photographed, including the new Women s League banner. This memorial service was to honour his memory, his intellectual contributions to the movement, his leadership, his kindness, humility, gentleness, strength and tireless work in Motala Heights, and other communities. He worked closely with Philani Zungu on Operation Khanyisa, with Lousia Motha and Shamita Naidoo on the crèche, with Shamita Naidoo on the legal battles against eviction in Motala Heights (all successful so far) and with the Abahlali Youth League where his wisdom and integrity were the foundation of the League s work.

He was a good man, a very good man.

He chose to use the last of his energies to be at the Constitutional Court when Abahlali claimed an important victory there.
