Press Release: Informal Trader March Thursday 3 June 2010
1 June 2010

Informal Trading march to protest the policies of the City of Cape Town on Thursday 3 June 2010 beginning at 10h00 from Kaizergracht and marching to the city offices. Mitchell’s Plain Traders are meeting at 7h00 in the Mitchell’s Plain Town Centre.

Under the banner of the Western Cape Informal Traders Coalition, traders throughout Cape Town are staging a march against the city regarding evictions, intimidation and harassment by law enforcement, unjust administrative action and exclusion because of the FIFA World Cup.

Traders would also like to voice their concerns regarding the non-existence of public participation in projects and the criminalisation of evicted traders. Traders have been victims of criminalisation from evictions are sitting with no income and the loss of livelihoods. All traders that are affected by the Informal Trading By-law are welcome to attend the mass march and all those in support are encouraged to attend.
