Mzonke Poni will be talking to a recent film entitled ‘Dear Mandela’, a short version of which will be screened as part of the event. The film captures some of the inspired history of Abahlali BaseMjondolo (isiZulu for ‘people of the shacks’) in Durban and the innovative leadership of a few members of one of South Africa’s most significant movements of the poor in the post-Apartheid period. Mzonke Poni will be reflecting on the gains of AbM and the struggles ahead, from the vantage point of the Western Cape more specifically.
