    Weee. This census data is grand. Here’s data on employment and unemployment in wards 23 and 25, categorised by kind of housing. It’s striking how many people are employed who live in informal housing in ward 25 (around 50% – I’d have thought the figure would have been lower, though this may be an artefact of StatsSA’s ridiculously loose definition of employment), and how much more acute the unemployment is in informal dwellings in Ward 23 – just under 70% unemployed.

    Anyway, there’s plenty more to be found in this data. Most frustrating is that we can’t yet find how big each household is, which prevents us accurately from saying how many people are denied decent access to water and sanitation.
