21 Arrested Outside Jayraj Bacchu’s office

November 2005

The demolition of, and evictions from, the small Lusaka settlement in Reservoir Hills finished (in the rain) last weekend. The 19 families who were not on the list to be allocated ‘houses’ in rural Parkgate occupied the lawns of Councillor Jayrach Bachu’s offices for a week in protest. Pictures of the occupation are online at http://southafrica.indymedia.org/news/2005/11/9133.php
The occupation went on for a week. But last night the police arrived, arrested 21 people and confiscated all their goods. They are currently in the holding cells at the Sydenham Police station and will appear in court on Monday.
