Two ANC Councillors to appear in the Durban High Court after being charged with the murder of Thuli Ndlovu

Mduduzi Christian Ngcobo, also known as Nqola, an ANC councillor in KwaNdengezi Ward 12 and his comrade PR councillor Luvelile Lutsheku are due to appear in Durban High Court tomorrow to answer to the charge that they are responsible for the murder of Thuli Ndlovu. The two councillors have been appearing in the Pinetwone Magistrate’s court for several times and had received a bail of R10 000 each. A few weeks after being given bail Nqola was rearrested and charged with attempted murder in KwaNdengezi after he was caught firing shots at some people. Just last week Nqola was given a bail again. Durban – Two ANC eThekwini councillors continue to perform public duties despite facing possible jail time for the alleged murder of a civil rights activist.

Council Speaker Logie Naidoo is standing by his comrades, vowing not to suspend the two.

His stance appears to be at odds with that of the ruling party, which said it had suspended the two.

Naidoo’s position on the matter has sparked the wrath of opposition parties, who have urged him to immediately suspend the two until the matter has been finalised in the Durban High Court. Continue reading

Two ANC Councillors will Appear in Court Today to On Suspicion of Being Responsible for the Assassination of Thuli Ndlovu

Thuli Ndlovu, our chairperson in KwaNdengezi, was assassinated in cold blood on the 29th September 2014 at her home. On 30 September 2013 Nqobile Nzuza was murdered by a police officer in Cato Crest during a protest. She was shot in the back of the head. Nkululeko Gwala was assassinated in Cato Crest on the 26 June 2013. Thembinkosi Qumbelo was assassinated in Cato Crest on 19 March 2013.

The ANC in KwaZulu Natal says it has decided to suspend two ward councillors, including Mduduzi Ngcobo, who face charges relating to the murder of Abahlali baseMjondolo (AbM) activist Thuli Ndlovu in September last year. The men appeared alongside a co-accused in the Pinetown Magistrates Court today. About a hundred members of AbM marched on the court to oppose bail.

Yet the two councillors were granted bail of R10,000 each until their next court appearance on 26 May, said police spokesman Major Thulani Zwane.

“For us this is very disappointing, because many our supporters that have spoken out against Ngcobo and opposed bail have already received death threats in recent days,” AbM secretary Ndabo Mzimela said. Continue reading

IT’S been seven months since Thulisile Ndlovu (36), chairwoman of shack dwellers organisation Abahlali baseMjondolo, was shot dead at her house in Kwandengezi kasi, outside Pinetown.

But now the truth about her murder could come to light when the court hears evidence in the matter.

On Friday there were loud cheers and sighs of relief among concerned residents and organisation members when Mduduzi Ngcobo, a local councillor, was arrested and charged with Thulisile’s murder. Continue reading
